Glad to hear that you did move forward with a business plan Marcy, and that it’s helping you stay on track. Ours has allowed Becca and I to achieve so much. I’m glad we got on this path!

Writing is a passion–and often a solitary endeavor, but I think considering the professional possibilities for one’s work means a writer has gained a level of confidence in herself and her writing–enough that she wants to offer something back to the community! It’s great! Though yes, often scary!

Oh my gosh, it’s so hard, isn’t it? The getting professional part? I think so many of us start out with writing as a hobby, and even though we’d like it to become a career, when it gets to that point, it’s a scary jump to make.

I read Angela’s post for Jane Friedman a while back and wrote a mini-business plan. You’re right. It really does help keep you focused, shows what you should say yes or no to and acts as a wonderful guide.
